And today I have feet (or mouth) on both sides of the Atlantic for my Virtual Poetry Reading!
Join me at Caroline Smailes’s blog for a reading of SOCKS, and then jump aboard my private jet to the New York headquarters of Alice Elliott Dark – both women are great writers, lovely supporters of other writers, and it’s an honour to be sharing my work with them. If you don’t know them, or their work, you are in for a real treat.
And just to remind you of previous stops, Tania Hershman was far too nice to me (but I loved it!), Danuta Kean shares her wisdom about social media (and some of mine), lovely Lia Leendertz (the inspiration behind my poem, The Interruption!) hosted a ‘happening’ (hic), and there was a flash with Nik Perring!
More tomorrow…. although I should say that one of the lovely, lovely things from this tour already is how many comments I’ve had from readers who say they ‘don’t do’ poetry normally but get what I’m saying.
YES!
I can’t tell you how happy that makes me. One of my writing heroes, Raymond Carver, is said to have commented that he wanted to write ‘reader’s poems’ rather than ‘critic’s poems’, and although YOU DO NOT NEED ANOTHER SELF-HELP BOOK may not win any poetry awards, being ‘got’ by one reluctant poetry reader is prize enough for me.
(ps and talking of lovely things, I wanted to publicly thank a complete stranger, @perricollins who caught me floundering on twitter about putting audioboo recordings on wordpress and patiently, kindly, gave up her time to talk me through it. Another reason to love twitter!)
